The first contact with seaplane flying is a special moment for many pilots – and often the beginning of a completely new perspective on flying.
Baltic Seaplane is the first port of call for many pilots when it comes to starting seaplane training. Whether it’s initial information, an introductory flight or the full class rating: We provide you with structured and practical support.
Seaplane flying differs from classic flying in many details – especially in dealing with wind, the water surface and decision-making. It is precisely these aspects that are the focus of our training.
– Burton B. Culver, Notes of a Seaplane Instructor
The introductory flight – often referred to as a trial flight – is the easiest way to get to know the world of seaplanes.
You sit at the controls yourself and get a first insight into flying on the water – accompanied by an experienced flight instructor.
It’s not just about the experience, but above all about developing a feeling for the special requirements of water flying.
For many pilots, this flight is one of the most interesting and memorable entries in the logbook.
The flight is documented as flight time and can be credited towards a later seaplane rating (SEP Sea) or – with the appropriate flight time (e.g. 90 minutes) – be used to extend your SEP (land) class rating.
This combines a necessary refresher course with a completely new flying experience.
The easiest way to get started is to take the controls yourself and learn the basics of water flying directly in the cockpit.
The flight is logable and can be credited to a later training or authorization.
Start directly with the SEP (Sea) training and acquire the class rating for seaplanes.
For many pilots, these flight hours are among the most interesting and memorable entries in the logbook.
We offer structured training programs for international pilots and support you in planning your stay and conducting it in accordance with EASA standards.
Ideal for pilots from Europe and beyond.
After booking, you will receive further information and our Seaplane handout with insights into water flying.
The flight is carried out as a trial flight / briefing.
Therefore, no other persons can be taken along.
The flight takes place under professional aviation standards.
Participation is also possible without a flight license.
Briefing, flight and short debriefing.
You experience take-off and landing on the water together with an experienced pilot. Time required: flight time + 30 minutes.
The basic training takes place in more sheltered areas such as Ribnitz-Damgarten or Heringsdorf. There, intensive water circuits and numerous “splash and go” maneuvers can be carried out in order to gain confidence in take-off and landing procedures.
The advanced training takes place under more demanding conditions on the Flensburg Fjord:
open stretches of lake
changing wind conditions
different wave and swell situations
This graduated concept guarantees sound and practical training.
Most of the training takes place on our Cessna 172P Amphibian (floatplane).
For advanced training content, we also offer training on the Lake LA-4 Buccaneer flying boat.
Theoretical briefing on procedures and water handling
Practical training in accordance with EASA requirements
Intensive take-off and landing training
Water handling, maneuvering
Completion with proficiency check
Let us know which training course you are planning. We will get back to you personally and discuss the most suitable implementation.
