The total duration of 90 minutes is made up of two useful components:
- Approx. 30 minutes briefing on the seaplane / SEP (Sea)
- around 60 minutes flight time, which can be relevant as a required “check flight” for many SEP (land) extensions
This allows you to combine a necessary flying activity with a new and extraordinary experience.

How do I extend my SEP class authorization?

FCL.740.A(b)(1) – Extension of class ratings for single-engine airplanes (SEP)
A single-engine class rating (SEP) may be revalidated if the applicant has applied within the 12 months prior to the expiry of the rating:
- has completed at least 12 flying hours in the relevant class, of which
- 6 hours as pilot in command (PIC),
- 12 take-offs and landings, and
- has completed a refresher flight of at least 1 hour with a flight instructor (FI or CRI)
or
- has passed a proficiency check with an examiner.
Is the extension with the seaplane possible for every pilot?
