Sightseeing flight Müritz Sail

Sightseeing flight in a
seaplane

Procedure, route and background information on the flight over
Mecklenburg Lake District

Classification

What makes this flight special

A sightseeing flight in a seaplane is fundamentally different from a flight from a classic airfield.

The start takes place directly on the Müritz. Instead of a runway, the water surface is used and the aircraft first moves over the lake before taking off.

This form of flying combines movement on the water with the transition into the air and makes the structure of the Mecklenburg Lake District particularly comprehensible.

The sightseeing flight follows the course of the lakes and shows the landscape from a perspective that is not accessible from the ground.

Procedure

The flight

The flight begins at the jetty on the Müritz. After boarding and starting the engine, the aircraft detaches from the mooring and begins to move over the water.

The aircraft is maneuvered over the water surface until the appropriate take-off distance is reached. Unlike on an airfield, the take-off does not take place from a fixed runway, but along an open area of water, depending on the wind direction and conditions.

As the speed increases, the aircraft lifts out of the water and begins to climb. After a short time, an overview of the lake and the surrounding landscape emerges.

From the Binnenmüritz, the flight leads over the northern part of the Müritz as well as Kölpinsee and Fleesensee to the island town of Malchow and follows the structure of the lake district.

After descending, the aircraft lands on the water again. The aircraft touches down on the surface and is then maneuvered back to the jetty.

Flight route

The route via Müritz - Kolpinsee - Flesensee

The sightseeing flight begins on the Binnenmüritz and leads over the adjacent water areas of the lake district.

Depending on the wind and weather conditions, the route runs across the Müritz and further across the Kölpinsee and the Fleesensee. The exact sequence of the areas flown over depends on the current conditions and will be adjusted accordingly on site.

For flights with two passengers, the route can also be flexibly arranged within this range.

The flight thus connects several lakes in the region to create a coherent overview from the air.

Airplane

The seaplane

The sightseeing flight is operated with a Cessna 172P Amphibian which is specially equipped for operation on water.

The aircraft is equipped with Wipaire 2350 floats, which enable take-offs and landings on both water surfaces and hard runways. The aircraft is powered by a 180 hp engine, which enables a smooth and stable flight over the lake landscape.

The design allows a good all-round view, so that the structure of the Mecklenburg Lake District clearly recognizable from the air.
